The Château de Rambouillet owes its fame to the rich, game-filled forest in the heart of which it was built. A former medieval fortress, it was gradually transformed into a pleasure residence and decorated with elegant features by its illustrious owners: the d'Angennes family, the Toulouse-Penthièvre family, Louis XVI, Napoleon I and our current Presidents of the Republic.

The Domaine de Rambouillet is also home to two exceptional monuments: Queen Marie-Antoinette's Dairy and the Shell Cottage. These two buildings were created in the 18th century in the heart of 150 hectares of historic gardens, classified as Jardins Remarquables. They are open to the public after a guided tour of the château.
